Description

A delicious fusion of flaky biscuits and spiced apple pie filling, perfect for breakfast, dessert, or a comforting snack.


Ingredients

  • 2 cups self-rising flour
  • 1/4 cup cold unsalted butter, cut into cubes
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 2/3 to 3/4 cup cold buttermilk
  • 4 apples, peeled, cored, and diced
  • 34 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 3 tablespoons heavy cream

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. For fresh apple filling, melt 2 tablespoons of butter in a skillet over medium heat.
  3. Add diced apples, lemon juice, sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  4. Cook until apples are tender, about 5-7 minutes. Let cool.
  5. In a medium bowl, whisk flour and sugar.
  6. Cut in cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  7. Add 2/3 cup buttermilk, stirring until dough forms. Add more buttermilk if needed.
  8. Roll dough into a rectangle, about 1/2 inch thick.
  9. Spread cooked apples over half the dough, then fold the other half over.
  10. Cut into 12 squares and place on baking sheet.
  11. Mix cinnamon, sugar, and salt in a small bowl.
  12. Brush biscuits with beaten egg and sprinkle with cinnamon-sugar mixture.
  13. Bake for 12-14 minutes, or until golden brown.
  14. Whisk powdered sugar and heavy cream to make a glaze.
  15. Drizzle glaze over warm biscuits before serving.

Notes

For a shortcut, use canned apple pie filling instead of fresh apples.
