Description
These Black Poison Swirl Candy Apples are wickedly beautiful and hauntingly delicious—perfect for your next Halloween bash! With their glossy black finish and hypnotic swirl, they’re spooky showstoppers made with simple ingredients.
Ingredients
Scale
- 6 small apples (Granny Smith or Gala)
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup light corn syrup
- 3/4 cup water
- 1/2 tsp black gel food coloring
- Optional: silver, purple, or red gel coloring (a few drops)
- Optional: 1/2 tsp cinnamon or vanilla extract
- Lollipop or popsicle sticks
Instructions
- Wash and dry apples thoroughly. Remove stems and insert sticks. Set on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
- In a heavy-bottom saucepan, combine sugar, corn syrup, and water. Stir over medium heat until sugar dissolves. Stop stirring and attach a candy thermometer.
- Let the mixture reach 300°F (hard crack stage), about 10–12 minutes. Remove from heat immediately.
- Add black food coloring. Swirl in silver, purple, or red gel coloring with a toothpick—don’t overmix.
- Carefully dip each apple into the candy, turning to coat. Let excess drip off and place on parchment-lined tray.
- Let set at room temperature for 30–45 minutes until fully hardened.
Notes
Use food-grade gel coloring for best results. Make sure apples are fully dry before dipping to ensure smooth coating. Store at room temperature—do not refrigerate. Wrap individually for gifts or party favors.
