Description
This cozy one-skillet French Onion Beef and Noodles blends caramelized onions, savory beef, creamy broth, and tender noodles into the ultimate comfort food—perfect for weeknights or whenever you crave something hearty and delicious.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb beef (ground beef, chuck roast, or leftover pot roast)
- 1 large yellow onion, thinly sliced
- 3 cups beef broth
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- ½ tsp thyme (dried or fresh)
- 8 oz egg noodles
- 1 tbsp olive oil or butter
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- ½ cup sour cream
- 1 cup shredded Gruyère or Swiss cheese (optional)
- Chopped parsley, for garnish
Instructions
- In a large skillet, heat olive oil or butter over medium heat. Add sliced onions and a pinch of salt. Cook, stirring often, for about 15–20 minutes until deeply golden.
- Push onions aside and add beef to the skillet. Brown the meat, breaking it apart. Drain excess fat if needed.
- Add Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, thyme, and beef broth. Stir well, scraping up browned bits.
- Stir in egg noodles and bring to a gentle boil. Reduce heat and simmer for about 10 minutes until noodles are tender.
- Stir in sour cream until smooth. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Sprinkle cheese on top (if using), cover, and let melt. Optionally, broil until bubbly and golden.
- Garnish with chopped parsley and serve hot.
Notes
Low and slow caramelizing is key. Use low-sodium broth if adding cheese. Let rest before serving to thicken sauce. Great for leftovers or meal prep.
