Description

French onion beef and noodles is the ultimate comfort food, combining the rich, savory flavors of caramelized onions, tender beef, and egg noodles in a creamy, flavorful sauce. Perfect for family dinners or casual weeknight meals!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb beef (chuck roast, stew meat, or ground beef)
  • 12 oz egg noodles
  • 2 large onions, thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 3 cups beef broth
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream (optional for creamier sauce)
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Heat butter in a large skillet or Dutch oven over medium heat. Add sliced onions and cook, stirring occasionally, until deeply caramelized (about 20-30 minutes).
  2. While onions cook, season beef with salt and pepper. In a separate pan, sear beef over medium-high heat until browned.
  3. Add beef to the skillet with the caramelized onions. Pour in beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, thyme, and bay leaf. Simmer for 15 minutes.
  4. Meanwhile, cook egg noodles according to package instructions. Drain and set aside.
  5. Remove bay leaf, then stir in heavy cream (if using) for a creamier sauce.
  6. Add cooked egg noodles to the beef and onion mixture, tossing to coat evenly.
  7. Serve hot, garnished with fresh parsley if desired.

Notes

For a richer flavor, deglaze the pan with a splash of red wine before adding the beef broth. You can also add melted cheese on top for a French onion soup-inspired twist!
