Description
French onion beef and noodles is the ultimate comfort food, combining the rich, savory flavors of caramelized onions, tender beef, and egg noodles in a creamy, flavorful sauce. Perfect for family dinners or casual weeknight meals!
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb beef (chuck roast, stew meat, or ground beef)
- 12 oz egg noodles
- 2 large onions, thinly sliced
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 3 cups beef broth
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1 bay leaf
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1/2 cup heavy cream (optional for creamier sauce)
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Heat butter in a large skillet or Dutch oven over medium heat. Add sliced onions and cook, stirring occasionally, until deeply caramelized (about 20-30 minutes).
- While onions cook, season beef with salt and pepper. In a separate pan, sear beef over medium-high heat until browned.
- Add beef to the skillet with the caramelized onions. Pour in beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, thyme, and bay leaf. Simmer for 15 minutes.
- Meanwhile, cook egg noodles according to package instructions. Drain and set aside.
- Remove bay leaf, then stir in heavy cream (if using) for a creamier sauce.
- Add cooked egg noodles to the beef and onion mixture, tossing to coat evenly.
- Serve hot, garnished with fresh parsley if desired.
Notes
For a richer flavor, deglaze the pan with a splash of red wine before adding the beef broth. You can also add melted cheese on top for a French onion soup-inspired twist!
