- ¾ cup granulated sugar
- ½ cup packed brown sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- ⅓ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- ½ cup all-purpose flour
- ½ tsp salt
- ½ tsp baking powder
- ½ cup dark chocolate chips or chunks (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line an 8×8-inch pan with parchment paper, letting the edges overhang for easy lifting.
- In a medium saucepan or microwave-safe bowl, melt the butter. Remove from heat and stir in both sugars. Whisk until glossy and smooth.
- Whisk in the eggs, one at a time, then stir in vanilla. Mix until well incorporated.
- Sift in the cocoa powder, flour, salt, and baking powder. Stir until just combined. Fold in chocolate chips or chunks if using.
- Pour the batter into your prepared pan. Bake for 25–30 minutes, or until the center is just set but still soft. A toothpick should come out with moist crumbs.
- Let brownies cool in the pan for at least 30 minutes before slicing.
Notes
For extra depth, try Dutch-process cocoa. Slightly underbaking and using both brown and white sugar ensures a fudgy center and crackly top.
