Description

A quick, healthy, and flavor-packed Chinese-inspired stir fry made with ground beef, cabbage, and a savory, umami-rich sauce.


Ingredients

  • 1 lb lean ground beef
  • 1 small green cabbage (about 5 cups shredded)
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1-inch piece of ginger, minced
  • 3 tbsp soy sauce (or tamari for gluten-free)
  • 1 tbsp hoisin sauce (optional, or 1 tsp honey)
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar
  • ½ tsp red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 2 green onions, sliced
  • Sesame seeds (optional garnish)

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet or wok, heat the sesame oil over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and cook until browned and no longer pink, about 5–6 minutes.
  2. Add in the minced garlic and ginger, cooking for 1–2 minutes until fragrant.
  3. Stir in the shredded cabbage and cook for 6–8 minutes until softened but still crisp.
  4. Mix the soy sauce, hoisin or honey, rice vinegar, and red pepper flakes in a bowl. Pour over the stir fry and toss to coat.
  5. Let simmer for 2–3 minutes to meld flavors and thicken the sauce.
  6. Remove from heat and garnish with green onions and sesame seeds if using.

Notes

Prep all your ingredients beforehand for a smoother stir fry experience. Adjust soy sauce or vinegar to taste.
